Hal Abelson has been selected as recipient of a special 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence for his work in open education. The award is presented by Open Education Global (OEGlobal.org) , a worldwide community that seeks to transform education systems everywhere by fostering a movement foregrounding openness in all aspects of education.
This past August, high school students from the Floyd County School of Innovation (FCSI) participated in a groundbreaking five-day workshop at the University of Pikeville in eastern Kentucky.
Thanks to a Google grant I had the fortune to travel to Chinle, Arizona in May 2025 and help start a new CS course called "Introduction to Mobile Computing & Artificial Intelligence" at the Chinle High School.
Over 1,300 participants from 86 countries and regions used AI tools to develop mobile apps addressing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in a six-week virtual event hosted by MIT RAISE and the App Inventor Foundation.
